Another one for [personal profile] mcalhen . Posted here, 'cause doing this in a comment field would be totally ridiculous.

I love and hate "favourites" memes, because I bellyache and moan, going, "Guys, what do I even liiiike," and then in the end I am totally dissatisfied with my answers, but they're workable enough that I realize I hit enough of the important things so that the others don't matter.

Movies: The Hurt Locker, Star Trek 2009, Mary Poppins, Howl's Moving Castle, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol, Inception, the Prince of Egypt, Nolan's Bat-films, The Incredibles, Toy Story, Shutter Island, Eagle Eye
Video games: Tales of the Abyss, Tales of Symphonia, Baten Kaitos, Legend of Zelda (OoT, MM, WW, TP, SS), FFVII, FFX, FFXII, Kingdom Hearts, Metroid Prime
Shows: Supernatural, Castle, the Mentalist, Community, Chuck, Avatar: the Last Airbender, Sherlock, Band of Brothers, Blue Planet, Criminal Minds, How I Met Your Mother
Anime/Manga: Claymore, Full Metal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Samurai Champloo, Digimon: Tamers, Durarara!!, .hack//sign, Ouran High School Host Club
Books/Authors: The Hunger Games, Paradise Lost, Animorphs, Chronicles of Narnia, Screwtape Letters, Surprised by Joy, Discipleship on the Edge, Artemis Fowl, Brandon Sanderson stuff, Silverwing, the Great Divorce, Y: the Last Man, A Wrinkle in Time (and various other Madeline L'Engle)
Candy/Sweets/Snacks/Foods: Peanut butter and nutella sandwiches, pumpkin pie, crepes, Caramilk, Ketchup / all-dressed / salt&vinegar / sour cream&onion chips. Brownies.
Drinks: Earl grey tea with vanilla syrup instead of sugar and cream, a good ol' Coke, iced water. I'm actually, like, addicted to iced water. I love crunching the ice cubes. Chocolate milk.
Pokemon: I was always fond of Torchic and its evolutionary branch.
Animals: Bats! Wolves! Lizards, like geckos. Whales. Anything on Discovery will pretty much hook me, tbh. Also, kittens and puppies are pretty rocking.
Characters (Fandom or original. Feel free to link picture refs!): Luke fon Fabre (Tales of the Abyss). Zelos Wilder and Colette Brunel (Tales of Symphonia). Castiel (Supernatural). Marco (Animorphs). Zuko (A:tLA). Yuffie Kisaragi (FFVII/KH).
Pairings: I'm going to put platonic friendships with someone+someone, because sometimes the fics I love to read most aren't pairing-centric, but I love the character interaction so much it's almost like I ship them. Zelos/Colette (ToS). Dean+Castiel, Sam+Castiel (SPN). Terra/Aqua (KH). Luke/Tear (ToA). Marco+Rachel (Animorphs). Artemis/Holly (Artemis Fowl).
Hobbies: Writing stories. Reading stories. Playing guitar, piano. Writing meta essays on fun fandom things.
Musicians/Artists: Josh Garrels, Mumford & Sons, City and Color, Emery, House of Heroes, Coldplay, Switchfoot, Red Umbrella, Muse, Daft Punk, Thrice
Instruments: Guitars and pianos are pretty cool. I also think any form of stringed instrument like violin, viola, cello, fancy foreign kinds with sympathetic strings, are all utterly fantastic and mystical.
Other interests – academic or not: ...Edgar Allen Poe. Comic books. Theology and doctrine and studying the Bible. There were a ton of books I didn't list because I was all, "yeah, they're kind of study books and not 'for fun' in the strictest sense", but of course I have tons of fun with them. Philosophy can be fun, but only when it has a point, you know? Not just learning about logical fallacies for the sake of it, but so I can argue a certain point better. Celestial/deep space objects and phenomena; the nature of light; ancient mythology.

Other questions

What fandoms do you follow most? Honestly, there is no one answer to this question. There is no most. I follow what I follow, and it always changes within a few months. There is the odd show I will keep up even when I'm not in it and thus don't care about it very much, but it's a small list. I follow the news in the HIMYM fandom, for Community, getting into the SPN newsfeeds...

Name a few things you enjoyed in the past, but don’t so much anymore. Name a few that you still enjoy. I don't really enjoy playing team sports as much as I used to, which is pretty sad, imo. Soccer just isn't fun anymore. Basketball could be fun if I was with the right people with a chill level of competition. I'm more for individual things these days, like martial arts. Something that I still really love and am addicted to are sudoku puzzles. They're so addictive. Winning is addictive, rather.

Out of all the places you’ve ever been, what have been some of your favorites, and why? British Columbia and Quebec are some of the best places I've ever been to, and I hope to live in again one day. They're just pretty, and have lots of culture and things to do, and agreeable climates. Well, actually, depending on where you are, the winters are bitterly cold and wet, but hey, Vancouver hardly ever gets snow.

What are some things you’ve been interested in watching, playing, et cetera? I was thinking about checking out Suits. Final Fantasy XIII-2, which I heard was alright. I have the .hack//G.U. games, excited to start those. A friend is busily recommending a bunch of Shakespeare I need to get to, so add Richard III and Othello to this list. I'm reading Good Omens, and that's inspiring to get back into some Terry Pratchett.

Are there any items people associate with you, and vice versa? Mm, don't think so. Maybe my phone or Pokeball laptop or whatever.

Do you have anything you collect? My movie stubs. I keep them on a board I hang by my bedroom door.

What are a few important goals in your life? They can range from silly to really important. I want to be a writer, whether officially published or not is unimportant to me at this point in my life. I have some vague notions of "this is the house I want" and "this is the job I want", but the longer I think about those things, the more they change. Yes, that's a cop-out. The writing is the only one I really cling to, I think.

Name your dislikes

Hoh. Do I actually not like anything? Uh...

Movies: S.W.A.T., Michael Bay's Transformers (especially Dark of the Moon, except for the last forty minutes), Phantom Menace... Jeez, this question is hard. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Pulp Fiction; although I sort of like it, I mostly hate it.
Video games: I'm not sure I've ever not enjoyed a game I've played. Seriously I only buy what I think I'm going to like.
Shows: ...Um. Oh! Toddlers and Tiaras, I hate that show with a fiery passion. Loatheeee.
Anime/Manga: I kind of dislike the first anime series of Full Metal Alchemist. Lucky Star, too, it's just so pointless.
Books: I take issue with Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy. It's good, but there are so many problems. The books really piss me off, if I'm going to be totally honest. Cassandra Clare's work, City of Bones and all that, are really trite and annoying.
Candy/Sweets/Snacks/Foods: Black licorice. Black olives.
Drinks: Guinness. The horrid black beer you can get in those large cans? It's awful. (To convince people that I am not prejudiced against "black" food things, black spiced rum is fantastic.)
Pokemon: Zubat/Golbat. If you've played the games, I don't think I need to explain.
Animals: None! They're all pretty awesome. Perhaps pestilent insects, because those are clear evidence that humanity is living in a fallen world.
Characters (Fandom or original.): Hm. Um. In this case, it's very difficult for me to actively dislike a character. Mostly, dislike just comes through as complete apathy. I can enjoy really terrible characters because they're written/played well, so it's the rare character who's such a scuzzbag that I hate them. So. Um, Hojo from FFVII... Oh! Zachariah from Supernatural, no holds barred dislike on him. Um. Kvar from ToS... Van Grants and Arietta from ToA.
Pairings: Axel/Roxas (KHII). Sam/Dean (SPN). Sasuke/Sakura, Sasuke/Naruto (Naruto). Snow/Serah, Fang/Lightning (FFXIII).
Musicians: This may get flak, but I don't really care for Dream Theater. And angry screamo bands, hate those. I like Killswitch Engage, August Burns Red, etc., but ones that are really satanic and hateful and crap, just no.
Instruments: None!

Name some of the things you’re least interested in – philosophy, math, vampires, et cetera. I am bored by computer programming. Since I use Linux, this gets inconvenient sometimes.

Pet Peeves. When people are really indecisive, to the point that they refuse to make any decisions because they're just so unsure. Pick something and suck it up, you, or I'll pick it for you. (And then when you suggest things, they're all, "...Ahhh... nooo.... I don't thiiiiink so..." Cue me spluttering with incoherent anger.)

When people act like authorities on something when they really have zero idea what they're talking about.

Feel free to say anything else below. I am so sorry for my run-on sentences. I'm good at those.

Also, it was surprisingly difficult to think of things that I don't like. I usually make a point to do the things that I like, so that was a lot of mental scrolling back to things I've done and didn't like.

I feel like I should do more things on this journal than memes. Like meta. I should post some meta soon.

Thank you for filling this out! I really appreciate it! (: And ah, memes at least help me get to know you better? (:

Haha, you know I'm going to raid your favorites now as a rec list? (: Though I love Inception. :D I'm also pretty sure I love most of the games on that list, or at least the ones I've played. Speaking of KH, I still need to get back to reading the fanfics you've posted. I might switch to commenting on instead of LJ, possibly - I think you have more posted there, so it just seems like the best place to leave reviews. (:

Ice water is amazing! (What...a constructive comment. xD)

Your answer to "instruments" reminds me that I've actually heard a recording of you playing the guitar. x3

Pretty much everyone that has filled this out has mentioned either Good Omens or Terry Pratchett. It reminds me I need to read more than just Good Omens, but it's definitely one of my favorite books.

Pokeball laptop

I-I wanna seeeee, that sounds so cool~

The writing is the only one I really cling to, I think.

Same - I think it's been the only constant in my life. o.O; And this question made me think a bit earlier (I read this but didn't have time to comment on it earlier) about how I should have asked other questions in this meme. Things that might've been helpful for getting to know people better.

Oh! Toddlers and Tiaras, I hate that show with a fiery passion. Loatheeee.

I wish everyone did, because somehow all the hate is not enough to keep it from going off air or stopping the behavior the show displays. ):

Candy/Sweets/Snacks/Foods: Black licorice. Black olives.
Drinks: Guinness. The horrid black beer you can get in those large cans? It's awful. (To convince people that I am not prejudiced against "black" food things, black spiced rum is fantastic.)

This got a chuckle out of me. I've never had any of the drinks, but I really dislike black liquorice and I don't care for olives at all. (Though it sounds like you do like green olives.)

I actually know someone who loves Zubat. xD

I'm afraid I'd set off your first pet peeve - I can be rather indecisive at times. Not terribly so, but I have my moments like that.

Thank you again for filling this out. (: I enjoyed reading your answers! :D

Would it be okay to ask you to post about your feelings/thoughts on Sherlock BBC...and have you ever read the books or/and seen any other adaptations of Sherlock Holmes?

I approve of peanut butter and your way of drinking Earl grey(aka the best drink in the world).

Mumford&the sons is pretty cool, I need to check out more of their music instead of just knowing the most popular songs.

let me love you 。◕ ‿ ◕。
Also hell yes, comic books.

Mind elaborating on why you hate Pulp Fiction? Also black licorice is so gross, eww.

Yessss I agree that their conversations are always the best part...though in case of BBC's Sherlock, I think for me it just might be Sherlock talking with people. But yeah, I think the real strength of Sherlock Holmes in general is the relationship between those two, not the actual crime stories.(I actually read that in many essays about Sherlock Holmes and that's what the creators of the BBC series said as well, so I'm really happy it's such a popular opinion.)Which does not mean that the plots are bad, of course. Quite the opposite.

Oh, what did you think of the Downey/Law movie? And yeah, Sherlock Holmes is so popular that I suppose it might be a bit hard to never come into contact with some sort of an adaptation(which is a good thing! To me at least.). It's just too bad that some adaptations stray from the canon a bit too much and create absurd opinions about the characters(seriously, Watson is usually quite OOC, Holmes to a lesser extent, but it happens). It would be great if you read some of the stories, yessss. Adventures are the most popular collection of SH stories, but I rather prefer Memoirs myself, the relationship between Holmes and Watson seems deeper, it's really made clear that Watson is hardly an idiot and there's also Mycroft, of whom I'm a huge fan. And 'The final problem' is in that one and that's a really unusual and important Holmes story. It would also be a good idea to start with 'The study in scarlet' which is generally rather wonderful, but the retrospection part might put some people off, it's not really bad, but it's not what you're looking for when you're reading Sherlock Holmes. Which reminds me, did you see both seasons of BBC Sherlock?

I haven't had nutella in ages ;w; I rather like it, but somehow never got into the habit of buying it. But I could really go for such a sandwich. Your cappuccino sounds quite delicious as well though, I'm jealous. As far as Earl grey is concerned though, I can also recommend adding a bit of raspberry syrup to it instead of sugar, pretty damn good, especially in winter(though an iced version for the summer also works).

Oh I really really reallyyyy love 'The cave', I remember looping it for quite a long time. I'll definitely check out the other ones! Thanks C:

I admit that I do love macabre in general, oops. Though 'The black cat' somehow was a bit hard to stomach for me. The rest of the stories/poems were 100% fantastic though, Poe is very high on my list of favourite writers ever.

Oh, while I do love Pulp Fiction quite a lot, I understand where you're coming from. I just think that while watching the movie, it's really important to remember that it's a kind of pastiche--if you take everything that happens seriously, then yeah, wow, that is kind overwhelming in an entirely unpleasant way. Have you seen Inglourious Basterds? o:

also wow sorry 90% of things i write wind up lengthy
